Sock Yourself (A Bit of Fun in Trying Times)
Yes, sock yourself, occasionally,
Yes, sock yourself, occasionally,
Will not cause you too much pain,
You can do so, inadvertently
Help you keep yourself sane.
Try the gentle upper cut
A little thump to your chin,
Needs no strength, because
You know your jaw and your skin
Or, try the thump on the chest
Just like winners everywhere,
Don’t need to bare it, covered’s okay
A coupe of gentle fists, take care
Or, try the temples on either side
Not the ones on the ground,
Not the ones that are today
Pandemically, empty found.
You can always punch the thighs, you know
Or, pat yourself on the back,
A little bit of harmless fun
Never got anyone the proverbial “sack”.
You can also try the punching bag
To sock you on the rebound,
That’ll make you feel less guilty
And, also make less sound
So, go ahead and sock yourself
If another you cannot find,
If I then see you in the “jug”
I’ll know you’ve lost your mind.
The Scots know well what the “joug” is
The yoke, the pillory for the head,
For the rogues and vagabonds there
Until, they lie.................
So,
Sock on, Friends.
