Political parties in Pakistan were involved in a blame game in the country’s senate when a discussion on the Kashmir issue was going on, reported Dawn.

The government and opposition slammed each other for being responsible for the country’s failure to resolve the seven-decade-old Jammu and Kashmir dispute. The House had a discussion over the Kashmir issue to mark, what Pakistan calls the Kashmiri’s Right to Self-Determination Day.

Opposition parties blamed Imran Khan’s government for mishandling the Kashmir issue as the Indian government, in August 2019, withdrew the 'special status' of the state, and fully integrated the state in the Indian Union.

Responding to the opposition attack, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi blamed opposition parties for politicizing the Kashmir issue. He said the government is obligated to work on the issue.

The minister said he had invited some of the opposition leaders for a briefing on the Kashmir issue, “I wish they had shown greatness, rising above political expediencies.”

Sherry Rahman, the senate leader of Pakistan’s People Party, took to Twitter and refuted the foreign minister’s claim.
