Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr. Lotay Tshering on Saturday congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India as India kick-started the world’s biggest vaccination drive to inoculate its population for COVID-19.

Hailing the leadership of Prime Minister Modi,  Tshering said in a Facebook post, “In this pursuit of securing and distributing the vaccine of an impressive magnitude, Your Excellency has displayed profound and compassionate leadership.”

Responding to his tweet,  Modi thanked the Bhutanese prime minister and said “A vaccine, which was earlier believed impossible in such a short time period has become a reality.” Modi further thanked the efforts of scientists, doctors, and innovators in his tweet.

“India is ready to do everything possible for a healthy planet. #LargestVaccineDrive,” Modi added in the tweet.

India granted emergency use authorization to two vaccines, Covishield by Serum Institute of India and Covaxin- indigenously developed by Bharat Biotech.

Tshering also hoped that the vaccination will pacify all the sufferings that people have endured because of the pandemic.

Bhutan is also seeking vaccines from India.  Tshering had said earlier his government was in discussion with Indian authorities for the procurement of vaccines. During the pandemic, India has provided continuous support in the form of medical equipment, PPE kits, and other resources to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.
