In what comes as good news for Bangladesh’s economy, the United Kingdom has assured Bangladesh that it would continue the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for Bangladesh even after the country’s migration to developing countries from the existing category of the least developed countries. The European Union has already assured continuing the GSP for Bangladesh.

The Daily Star reported the assurance came at the first meeting of the UK-Bangladesh Trade and Investment Dialogue in Dhaka. The development came a month after the UK exited from the EU.

"We have started [the] dialogue with the UK like that of Trade and Investment Forum Agreement (TICFA) signed between Bangladesh and the USA for resolving issues of trade and commerce through consultations between the two countries," Md Jaffar Uddin, Bangladesh’s commerce secretary was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.

During the meeting, Jaffar also asked the UK to recruit more doctors, nurses, engineers, and teachers from Bangladesh as the demands in service sectors are high in the UK. He also informed that the UK had earlier shown interest in the higher education sectors of the country.
