Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that his government remained dedicated in its endeavor to address the challenges of climate change in the country. The country had earlier launched an ambitious plan, the Ten Billon Tree Tsunami.

“We remain dedicated to the cause and are trying to improve the environment in different ways,” Khan was quoted as saying by Dawn during an event to kickstart a campaign for World Environment Day.

“This is a great honor and acknowledgment of the fact that Pakistan is among a handful of countries trying to reduce the impact of climate change and global warming.”

He said the water in rivers comes from glaciers. And they may face many issues in the future if glaciers continue to melt at the current rate.

"We are not doing this for show. We are doing this so that we can leave behind a better country for our future generations,” he said, adding, the future generation will be benefited from these changes.

Lack of urban planning and deforestation in rural areas have caused great harm to the country, he said, reminding that in earlier days cities were not as bad they are today.
