Authorities in the Maldives beefed up security around the country’s presidential residence following its intelligence agencies received input of bomb threat to the archipelago’s President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, reported Raajje TV.
The report in Raajje TV, citing intelligence sources, reported that a bomb threat was received on the night of May 30. Soon after the input, the area around the country’s presidential palace had been secured by officers of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
Ever since the failed assassination attempt on the country’s speaker, Mohammed Nashid, security agencies are on alert mode. A few weeks ago, a similar threat was made to bomb the country’s parliament building. Following this, the security was boosted there. Later, a 28-year-old man arrested by police regarding the incident.
Soon after the attack on Nasheed, President Solih had ordered a shake-up of the entire security apparatus of the country.
Ordering an audit of the security agencies last month, he said it was clear that intelligence frameworks would need to be strengthened, in addition to increasing security for high-risk targets as well.
The government had made it clear that they would introduce sweeping changes in the country's national security forces following the lapses.
