The Orb in the Golden Robe
With a veil of deep sorrow do I now my heart adorn
With a veil of deep sorrow do I now my heart adorn
The shadows lengthening and, sadly, now well- worn,
The fabric of life, once resplendent and whole
Now, mostly, in tatters and, in places, scratched and torn.
The flickering flame of the lamp of life slowly ebbing away
Within the heart an anguish at how, silently, Time has flown,
(Without a whisper, like the gentle sways of the morning Zephyr)
Little to recount, even less to remember, what shall I now say,
Where was it once, this elusive phantom called, Time,
And, where has it now gone.
I looked around the corner, up and down the burning chimney
Nowhere in sight were those lovely times that Time took away
Someplace, then placed them in the box called “sweet memory
“ That phantom light of Dawn that, seemingly, mimics Eternity,
Close now, the tape to breast at the end of Life’s race.
The Orange glow of the evenings turning darker by the hour
The horizon barely visible, the Sun away for the night,
Jousting, snoring, glowering, showering, the Sun’s majestic power
Gone for me till it’s time to see, again, that blessed, shining , light
Or, fade as it does each lonesome night
For, some to see, replacing it, another glorious Day,
Now back, the gallivanting over, the two-faced Lord,
The great Deceiver,
The Orb, in the Golden Robe.
