Philippines extends travel ban on South Asian countries

The Philippines has extended the travel ban for all inbound travelers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) until June 30, citing the prevalence of fast-spreading variants 0f the coronavirus

The Philippines has extended the travel ban for all inbound travelers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) until June 30, citing the prevalence of fast-spreading variants 0f the coronavirus.

Daily Mirror reported that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the extension of travel restrictions. On 29 April, it had first banned travelers from India, and later the ban was extended to others countries in the region.

After many overseas Filipino workers that flew from Oman and the United Arab Emirates, were found Covid positive upon their arrival, The Philippines banned international arrivals from the countries on May 15.  

The Philippines has reported 1,322,053 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Monday, including 22,845 deaths.
