Amid a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 infections, authorities in Sri Lankan re-introduced the mandatory quarantine measure of two weeks for all people entering the island nation, Colombopage reported.

Sri Lanka has recorded an increase in infection rate in recent weeks, especially after the Tamil and Sinhala new year. The government has introduced several measures thereafter to contain the spread of the virus.

All tourists, citizens, and other returnees would now be required to quarantine themselves for two weeks upon their arrival in Sri Lanka. Significantly, the measures don’t make any exemptions even to the people who are fully vaccinated.

These measures will surely have an impact on the efforts Sri Lanka has been taking to boost tourism in the country. However, given the recent wave of the COVID-19 in the South Asia region, especially in India, the priority now seems is to contain the spread, authorities stated.
