At least ten members of Afghan security forces were killed and six others were wounded on Sunday in an attack by the Taliban in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan, Tolonews reported.
A border force commander was also killed in the attack. The attack, which was started on Saturday night, happened in the Imam Shahib of the province, said a local official of the province.
The insurgent group has not yet claimed the responsibility for the attack.
Just a month back, the Taliban had tried to capture the provincial capital by force in the same province, and the attack was repelled with the US forces’ airstrikes. The province is strategically located in the northern part of the country which connects Majar-e-Sharif to northeastern Afghanistan.
On 23 November, during Geneva Conference on Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had also expressed his serious concern over the deteriorating security situation in northern Afghanistan.
Just a day back, US forces in Afghanistan conducted airstrikes in Kandahar province to repel the Taliban offensive. The spokesperson of the US forces in Afghanistan called the strike in accordance with the US-Taliban agreement.
The Taliban, on the other hand, called the strike a violation of the Doha Deal and claimed that many children were killed in the US strikes.
