ISRAELI-PALESTINE CONFLICT: INDIA’S BALANCING ACT
Even as Israel and Hamas finally announced a ceasefire, India’s policy in the conflict has come in for some scrutiny. In a nuanced statement at the UN, India maintained balance between its historic ties with Pales-tine and its relations with Israel. The analyses reviews India’s statement that did not go down well with Israel; that Israel’s heroic image is now dented in the Indian media; even though it is critical of the lack of concern for the loss of civilian lives by both sides; impact of the conflict on the international geopolitical environment; and a historical perspective which indicates that India’s balancing relations is still work in progress.
